Movement brings clarity and calm.
You keep pacing while talking with a close friend about a personal issue.
When you feel annoyed or frustrated, you must get out and walk to calm down. Physical movement helps you regulate your emotions and makes it easier to express yourself.
Being outside brings you a sense of calm. So, it makes sense that you have a therapy session where you will be talking about emotional topics outdoors!
Let’s talk about the option of a walk and talk therapy session.
Walking and talking may be the right option.
Walk and Talk therapy is what it sounds like to you. We meet at a pre-arranged outdoor space rather than meeting via telehealth or in an office. Then, we engage in our session while walking.
If you are someone who spends your days in front of screens, in your car, or inside a stuffy office or messy house, you might find you prefer to participate in walk and talk therapy.
This form of therapy is a beautiful way to get some light physical and enjoy some fresh air while taking care of your mental health.
You might also feel more comfortable opening up and discussing emotional subjects while walking side by side with me instead of in the typical face-to-face setting of an office.
The format is the same – but we Walk and Talk.
Before our session, we will choose an outdoor space to meet up. You will wear comfortable clothes and shoes (as will I), and together, we will go for a walk around nature with you setting the pace.
If you want to walk for the entire session or if you would like to find a quiet spot to sit for part of the session, it’s entirely up to you!
Other than that, our sessions will be very much like they would be in an office – you can talk to me about whatever is on your mind, and we will work together to continue to make progress toward your goals!
